Heisa is one of the few remaining islands of Nubia after the flood cause when the great dam was built, it’s still populated with native Nubians who refuse to leave.

They have grown a great sentimental value to their land and the river that goes far beyond a mere visitor’s notice. After a few visits to the island the place starts to unfold itself.

35mm photographs shot, developed and scanned on the island in the first darkroom set up in one of the houses since the 1950s.
